Wireless Printing & File Transfer

Camera vendors are now offering cameras that can send image files to printers and computers wirelessly, typically using the Wi-Fi (802.11b and 802.11g) networking protocol.

Nikon

Nikon released the P1 (8MP) and P2 (5.1MP) additions to its CoolPix line of prosumer cameras in September 2005. Unlike the KODAK offering (below), both cameras have built-in support for Wi-Fi. They perform wireless file transfers to a PC or Mac on which you've installed the Nikon photo management software. They wirelessly print to any PICTBRIDGE-compatible printer if you plug a P10-D wireless printer adapter into the printer's USB port.

Nikon has been shipping wireless transmitter packs for the D2-line of pro camera bodies since early 2005. They use FTP to transfer files to a computer that is running an FTP server connected to a Wi-Fi access point. These devices are not capable of wireless printing.

KODAK

KODAK announced its wireless solution in January, 2005, but has delayed release until September/October, 2005.
