Microsoft Releases RAW Viewer for Windows XP SP 2

(June 20, 2005) The Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer is a free "PowerToy" for Microsoft Windows XP that lets you view, organize, and print photos captured in RAW image formats from supported Canon and Nikon digital cameras.

Nikon and Microsoft Collaborate on Native Support for NEF Files in Windows "Longhorn"

(June 2, 2005) Nikon and Microsoft announced that they are working together to "provide support of the NEF (Nikon Electronic Format), Nikon's well received RAW file format. This project will enable NEF files to be viewed and edited with all applications that access images within 'Longhorn,' the code name for the next version of Microsoft Windows."
